His images, his words.
Harry and Vic are two old mates who’ve both had busy and stressful high-profile careers. After decades of the daily grind, the pair decided to have a go at a 4WD expedition. Despite health issues for 72 year old Vic, both gents threw themselves into an eight-day trek through the stunning New Zealand Canterbury High Country on the South Island. The trek featured some rough and scary terrain as well as deep water crossings. The challenge was completed successfully and I love this image because it proves that good mates can do anything together!
This was taken at the Yarragundry Park Motocross circuit, Wagga Wagga. Photographers like me live for these moments. Prior to the commencement of the day’s racing, I saw this young fellow and his Dad talking tactics and making plans. When I captured this exchange, I thought about the great relationship that obviously exists between the two and felt an immense sense of privilege to witness such a beautiful father and son moment.
This shot, to me, is what grassroots sport is all about - little tackers getting out there and having a go and just loving being in that moment. And how could I resist taking this shot with such a great smile under the helmet?! The special thing with Wagga photos like this is the joy that it brings to parents, friends and family as they imagine that maybe, just maybe, he could be another Casey Stoner!
It’s a lot about timing when it comes to photography. Wagga throws up plenty of opportunity to capture the extraordinary. But every now and then, lady luck plays a role as well. This unbelievable shot was taken of Wagga’s Errol Willis as he was leading the field in Round Four of the Motocross at Yarragundry Park. Errol is really starting to make a name for himself throughout the Motocross circuits and is definitely a rising star. It feels great to know I was there to capture the beginning of greatness.
This AFL Farrar League battle between CSU and North Wagga in May 2011 was as solid and gutsy as they come. The clash at Peter Hastie Oval was a physical encounter and this action shot highlights the passion that both teams injected into the game. The match was won by North Wagga. Photos like this are the reason I do what I do.
